Bath Conversions

Tub to Shower Conversions

Replace a tub you step over with a shower you walk into — same footprint, existing drain, usually one or two days.

This is the job we do most. A tub that nobody has taken a bath in for years becomes a shower that is easier and safer to use every day.

Because the footprint and drain stay put, most conversions are finished in a day or two without touching the rest of the bathroom.

  • Custom High Tech Polymer bases. Sized to your alcove and set fully bedded, so the pan cannot flex.

  • Grab bars into blocking. Anchored into framing, not tile — a bar that pulls out of the wall is worse than no bar.

  • One or two days, typically. Reusing the existing drain is what keeps the timeline short and the room intact.

Why people convert

Stepping over a 15-inch tub wall onto a wet surface is how most bathroom injuries happen. Remove the wall and you remove the risk, which is why this is the first thing we are asked about by anyone planning to stay in their home.

The second reason is simpler: an unused tub is wasted floor area in the smallest room in the house.

Low threshold or barrier-free

A low-threshold base keeps a small lip to contain water and suits most bathrooms. A barrier-free entry removes it entirely and needs the floor structure to allow the pan to be recessed — we check that before promising it.

Safety specified at the same time

Grab bars into real blocking, a slip-resistant base, a fold-down or molded seat and a hand-held shower on a slide bar. Specifying these with the base costs far less than retrofitting them later.

Common questions

Tub to Shower Conversions FAQs

Do I lose value by removing my bathtub?
Only if it leaves the house without a tub anywhere. If there is a tub in another bathroom, converting this one is generally neutral to positive — and strongly positive if it makes the home usable for someone who is currently avoiding that bathroom.
Can the shower be made fully barrier-free?
Sometimes. A truly zero-threshold entry needs the pan recessed into the floor structure, which depends on what is under it — joist direction and depth decide it. We check before quoting, and if it is not possible we can usually get down to a low beveled threshold instead.
What areas does Clear Day Bath Solutions cover for remodeling projects?
We serve Northern Virginia, Maryland and the greater DC metro from our base in Woodbridge, VA. That includes Prince William, Fairfax, Stafford, Fauquier, Loudoun and King George counties in Virginia, and Frederick, Washington, Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George's and Charles counties in Maryland. If you are not sure whether you are inside our radius, call us and we will tell you straight away rather than sending someone on a wasted trip.
How does a tub-to-shower conversion benefit my home's value and safety?
Stepping over a 15-inch tub wall is the single most common way people get hurt in a bathroom. Replacing that tub with a low-threshold or barrier-free shower removes the obstacle entirely, and adding grab bars and a seat makes the space usable for decades rather than years. On the resale side, a dated tub in a hall bath reads as deferred maintenance to buyers, while a clean modern shower reads as a bathroom they will not have to touch.
What exactly is included in your custom wet-area remodeling?
The wet area is everything water touches: the tub or shower base, the surround walls, the valve and fixtures, the door or curtain rod, and the waterproofing behind all of it. A custom job means the base and surround are sized to your actual opening rather than forcing a stock unit into a space it does not fit. We handle demolition, disposal, installation and cleanup, and we leave the room usable when we go.
What are your hours, and how do I schedule a consultation?
We are reachable Monday through Friday 8am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 4pm. Call 571-751-7598 or send the quote form on any page. A consultation is an in-home visit where we measure the space, look at the existing plumbing and give you a written price. There is no charge and no obligation to book work.
What makes Clear Day different from the larger bath franchises?
We are locally owned and we work in the same counties we live in, so the person who quotes your job is accountable for how it turns out. Franchise operations often route you through a call center and a commissioned closer working from a fixed price book. We quote what your bathroom actually needs, we will tell you when a smaller scope will do, and you can reach us directly afterwards.
